Between Now and Then

I caught up with Rohn Stilson, who is the same man who oversaw the insallation of the Northway Chairlift at Crystal Mountain in Washington last year. If you haven't seen the details from that installation, check out the site: http://www.skicrystal.com/1733.html

Questions for Rohn..

Q: When will parts be arriving from Doppelmayr?
A: Mid-August

Q: What are the primary tasks at hand between now and then?
A: Both the top and bottom terminals need to have concrete anchors poured. We have also marked where most of the line towers will go. Each of those footings will need to be poured.

Q: What are the hurdles in your way to accomplish those tasks?
A: The top and bottom terminals need to have stable soil in which to plant the anchors. This will help to distribute the torque. At the bottom we are excavating a wide and deep area to be filled in with better soil. At the top we will be blasting into rock before doing the same thing. We hope to be able to pour the tower footings via ground, rather than via air like we did at Crystal. The terrain here is better suited for that.

Alan Lowe and Ronnie Mills excavate the lower terminal for the incoming anchor.
